Get Dale County Court Records

Start any Dale County court record search with the Dale County Circuit Clerk, whose office holds the Circuit and District Court files and issues the official copies. A record here really means three things: the docket, also called the Case Action Summary, the filed images, and clerk-certified copies. Each layer answers a different need. The state trial-record service is one way in, though the clerk's own office allows free electronic inspection of a court docket and sells certified copies. When you ask, name the court, the case number, the filing year, the document title, and the copy type. Municipal, Probate, and federal records sit with other offices. Access ends where Alabama law, a court rule, or an order protects the material.

Three Dale Court Record Layers

A Dale County court record has three distinct layers. The docket / Case Action Summary is the dated event index. A filed image is the actual complaint, motion, order, judgment, or attachment behind an entry. A certified copy is a clerk-authenticated reproduction of the filed document under Judicial Administration Rule 30.

LayerWhat it provesWhere to obtain it
Case Action SummaryWhat events were entered and whenJust One Look, Alacourt, or clerk terminal
Filed imageThe text of the paper accepted in the casePortal image or clerk file
Certified copyThe clerk authenticates the filed reproductionDale County Circuit Clerk

A portal printout is not automatically certified. The entry "judgment" does not supply the full terms. Open or request the signed judgment itself.

Court Record Types

The record type controls the custodian and access limit. Dale County Circuit and District files include several public categories, while other courts and protected matters use different routes.

  • Case Action Summaries and court setting records.
  • Complaints, answers, motions, notices, orders, and judgments.
  • Circuit and District criminal, civil, traffic, domestic, child-support, and small-claims files.
  • Municipal ordinance and city traffic records held by each city court.
  • Probate estates, guardianships, conservatorships, and adoptions held by the Probate Office.

Juvenile, youthful-offender, adoption, sealed, and other protected files do not behave like ordinary public Dale County court records. Federal records use PACER and the federal clerk, not Alacourt.

Older Dale Court Records

Older Dale County court records may require a manual clerk search, paper or microfilm retrieval, or an archives inquiry. Dale courthouse fires in 1869 and 1884 may affect record survival. The 33rd Judicial Circuit was formed in 1959, so an older caption may use a prior circuit designation. Give the clerk the approximate year and any former style found in a document.

The Alabama Department of Archives and History is a secondary custody source for transferred historic government records.

Dale State and Federal Records

Dale County state files use the Ozark clerk and Alacourt products. Federal cases use PACER and the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Alabama. Dothan may host Southern Division sessions, but its federal location is unstaffed and accepts no filings. Conventional filings and clerk services go to Montgomery.

PACER charges $0.10 per page as of August 2026, with a $3 cap when applicable and an automatic quarterly waiver at $30 or less. The announced 2027 rate is not yet current. Bankruptcy records use the Middle District Bankruptcy Court. This distinction prevents a federal docket search from being sent to the Dale County Circuit Clerk.

Sealed Records and Public Access

Alabama Privacy Rules 104 and 401 state the public baseline and preserve free clerk-office viewing of electronic Circuit and District records. Alabama Code section 36-12-40 also supports inspection and copying of public writings. Remote access may still be subscription based.

The official statute page is captured below as a primary source for Dale County court record access.

Dale County court records public inspection statute

The capture anchors the public-access rule, while court-specific confidentiality rules still control protected material.

Protected records: Rule 301 governs sealing after a hearing and written findings. Rules 202 and 303 protect specified identifiers and permit public redacted versions. Alabama Code section 12-15-133 protects juvenile files, and section 15-19-7 restricts youthful-offender records.

A closed attachment does not always close the whole file. Ask for the nonconfidential portion rather than assuming all Dale County court records in the case are sealed.

Free Dale Record Inspection

The Dale County Courthouse at 100 East Court Square is the most useful no-subscription channel. Ask for the public-access computer and bring the case number, style, approximate year, and division. The detailed clerk notice lists counter hours of 8:00 a.m. to noon and 1:00 to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Another official footer says 8:00 to 5:00, so call before travel.

Inspection is free, but paper and certified output costs extra. The clerk page does not promise staff research, the number of terminals, all accessible years, or complete image coverage. A focused phone inquiry can confirm those practical points. The Dale County case lookup can help locate the number before a copy request.
