How to Search Cases by Name
Just One Look is the paid route the state sells. It covers a remote Dale County case lookup. Its formal name is Alacourt ACCESS. The public landing page gives you two modes: Name Search and Case Number Search.
A name search runs $9.99 and pulls one case detail with it. Want another case from the same result? That one costs another $9.99 each time you select it.
One caution before you start. The landing page shows no first-name box and no date range. There is no attorney filter and no court filter. None of those controls exist in that workflow, so plan your docket search without them.
- Confirm that the matter is a Dale County Circuit or District case rather than municipal, probate, or federal.
- Choose Name Search and enter only the data the official workflow requests.
- Review the price and create or use the required account before purchase.
- Match the returned court, division, case number, style, and filing details before opening the included case.
- Read the Case Action Summary, settings, and disposition instead of relying on the result caption alone.
The official search and pricing interface lays out both search modes and the current access terms.
This Dale County route pays off most once you already know the court and division.
| Field or control | Type | Required | Notes |

Dale County Case Lookup Costs
Reach for the case number first. Both remote modes charge $9.99. But a number lands you on one specific court record with its case detail included. Common names are riskier. Every extra detail you open from a shared name adds another $9.99. Dig out the full number from a citation, notice, order, pleading, or old receipt. Do that before you pay for a name search. Just One Look also sells case monitoring that lasts the life of a case. District monitoring is $19.99. Circuit monitoring is $29.99. Document images cost extra too. They run $5 for the first 20 pages, then $0.50 per page after that. These are remote product prices only, not the Dale County clerk's fees for paper copies.
| Dale County lookup choice | Published price | What it includes |
|---|---|---|
| Name search | $9.99 | Search plus one selected case detail |
| Later case from name results | $9.99 each | Another selected case detail |
| Case-number search | $9.99 | Search plus one case detail |
| District monitoring | $19.99 | Monitoring for the life of the case |
| Circuit monitoring | $29.99 | Monitoring for the life of the case |
Want to skip the fees entirely? The Dale County Circuit Clerk's office has an electronic public terminal for free inspection, though printed pages and certification still carry a charge.
How to Search by Case Number
Alabama trial case numbers usually open with a division code and a year. Learn the pattern and the codes read like a map. CC-YYYY-number points to Circuit Criminal. CV-YYYY-number is the civil side. DC means District Criminal, DV domestic relations, JU juvenile, SM small claims, and TR traffic. Copy the punctuation, zeros, and full sequence straight from the court paper. In Just One Look, choose Case Number Search. Type the number as prompted. One step later, pause. Confirm the displayed number and name match your intended Dale County record. Do that before you log in or register to buy the detail. If the system rejects a number, double-check the county and division. Do not strip characters at random. The public instructions never promise which punctuation variants will pass. The selected-case purchase handoff shows the case identifier first, before any account choice.
That pause protects your wallet. Confirming the match keeps you from paying to open the wrong Dale County case. Note: a JU prefix may mark a legally restricted juvenile matter, so the number alone never guarantees public remote details.
Dale County Case Number Prefixes
Prefixes matter because party names repeat. Circuit Criminal and District Criminal are separate jurisdictional paths. The same name can appear on both. Domestic relations lives on the Circuit side, and a state traffic case can carry a TR identifier. A small-claims record sits in District Court. The Dale County Circuit Clerk holds all of these named Circuit and District divisions. Access rules can still shield parts of a file from public view.
- CC
- Circuit Criminal, including the principal felony docket.
- CV
- Civil case number used for civil matters in the appropriate trial court.
- DC
- District Criminal, including many misdemeanor proceedings.
- DV
- Domestic-relations matter on the Circuit Court side.
- SM
- Small-claims case in the District Court division.
- TR
- Traffic case, whose issuing court must still be checked.
Not every TR number belongs to the county, though. A municipal TR case can stay with Ozark, Daleville, Midland City, Level Plains, or Newton instead of the Dale County Circuit Clerk. Probate files likewise stay with the Dale County Probate Office, so read prefix, county, and issuing court together before you chase a record.
What a Case Search Shows
The official product description says one Dale County case detail can include Court Setting Dates, Court Actions and Rulings, Party Information and Details, Case Action Summary, Financial Information and Costs, and Document Images and Attachments. Read it in order. Start with identity fields. Then move through the dated events and the current setting. Finish with disposition and any public order image. That sequence keeps you from mistaking a filed motion, a charge, or an old hearing date for the final result.
| Division and case number | Confirms the Dale County court path and unique record identifier. |
|---|---|
| Case style and parties | Shows the caption and roles used by the court. |
| Filed date and status | Shows when the matter began and its current recorded state. |
| Actions and rulings | The chronological event index known as the Case Action Summary. |
| Court settings | Future or past dates that must be checked against later resets. |
| Disposition | The recorded outcome, distinct from an accusation or request. |
| Images | Available public complaints, motions, notices, orders, judgments, and attachments. |
A docket line is not the filed document itself. A downloaded image is not automatically certified, either. When you need authentication, ask the Dale County Circuit Clerk for certification under Judicial Administration Rule 30.
Dale County Case Search Login
Anyone can browse Just One Look's search modes and pricing for free. Buying a selected detail is different. That step requires an account. An email address and password go at the login, and password recovery is built in. New customers take the registration path. Keep perspective on the paywall. It is an access condition, not proof that the Dale County case is confidential. The Just One Look customer login stands apart from the search selection and from AlaFile.
Pause before this login screen. It completes a purchase, not a search. Identify the right Dale County court and case number first.
For repeated read-only access, Alacourt.com runs its own subscription login. Questions about a subscription go to the official court-systems page, which lists 1-877-799-9898. AlaFile is different again: registered attorneys and self-represented users file papers through it. It is not an anonymous public case search. Never treat it as one.
County vs Statewide Case Search
Dale County publishes no separate free anonymous Circuit and District database. Instead, two layers cover the same state trial records. The statewide Alacourt system is the remote layer. The Dale County Circuit Clerk's terminal is the local no-fee layer. The means and the cost differ between them. Municipal, Probate, and federal records sit outside this comparison entirely. Each is held by its own custodian or system.
| Route | Coverage | Cost and best use |
|---|---|---|
| Just One Look | Alabama state trial cases advertised as criminal, civil, small claims, state traffic, domestic relations, and child support | Paid one-case remote search |
| Alacourt.com | Subscription trial-court records and images | Paid repeated read-only access |
| Dale County clerk terminal | Dale County Circuit and District electronic docket data and available public images | Free onsite inspection |
| Municipal or Probate office | That custodian's city or probate case files | Direct contact, portal, or copy request |
| PACER | Federal cases | Federal search and billing system |
When an online docket search comes up empty, the Dale County clerk still answers. Call 334-774-5003, visit 100 East Court Square in Ozark, or email delores.woodham@alacourt.gov. Written inquiries go to P.O. Box 1350, Ozark, AL 36361. Staff can confirm which office holds the file and how copies work, though they offer no legal advice and no research service.
Dale County AlaFile Is Not Lookup
AlaFile is Alabama's electronic filing and service system. It is built for attorneys and registered self-represented filers, whether individuals or businesses, to submit authorized court papers. AlacourtPlus is the internal processing application for clerks and judges. The read-only record products are Alacourt.com and Just One Look. A Dale County docket searcher who mixes these tools up can land at a filing login. No public result list sits behind it. The Alacourt subscription login is the reader product, kept entirely separate from the filing side.
The subscription interface serves people who need recurring read access. A one-time Dale County case lookup goes elsewhere. It starts at Just One Look or the free clerk terminal.
Electronic filing does not promise that every image is public remotely. The docket can list an event. Its attachment may stay withheld, redacted, or reachable only through another channel. When one document is restricted, request the public portion.
Restricted Cases and Access Rules
Just One Look advertises criminal, civil, small claims, state traffic, domestic relations, and child-support records. Juvenile, probate, and municipal ordinance records are not part of its advertised catalog. Alabama law explains why. Alabama Code §12-15-133 makes juvenile legal and social records confidential. Youthful-offender records are generally nonpublic under §15-19-7. Adoption and properly sealed records carry their own restrictions.
No result does not prove no case exists. Check the court, number, municipal or probate custody, archive status, and lawful access restrictions before drawing a conclusion.
Before a court seals anything, Privacy Rule 301 requires a hearing. It also requires written findings on the listed grounds. Rules 103 and 303 preserve access to any nonconfidential or redacted portion where that is practical. A person entitled to restricted information should ask the correct custodian. The question is what order, authorization, and identification are required. Public staff should never be pressed to reveal protected facts.
Older Dale County files may need a manual or archive search. Courthouse fires in 1869 and 1884 can affect survival. A pre-1959 caption may reflect Dale's earlier circuit structure. Give the clerk the approximate year, case type, party names, and old designation. When local custody cannot be confirmed, the Alabama Department of Archives and History is the official fallback.
Free Dale County Case Lookup
The Circuit Clerk's public terminal needs no subscription. It opens any Dale County Circuit or District docket. Alabama Privacy Rule 401 requires electronic dockets and electronically filed court records to be viewable free of charge at the clerk office during regular hours. Rule 33 preserves the right to inspect electronic court data there. Printed and certified output still carries fees.
Bring the case number, style, filing year, and division to 100 East Court Square in Ozark. The detailed counter notice lists 8:00 a.m. to noon and 1:00 to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. But a different official footer shows broader hours, so call 334-774-5003 before a long trip. Ask for the public-access computer and confirm which images are available.
Dale County Cases Outside Alacourt
A public Alacourt search does not reach every Dale County custodian. City ordinance and municipal traffic matters stay with the issuing Municipal Court unless appealed. Probate estates, guardianships, conservatorships, adoptions, and related files remain with the Dale County Probate Office. Federal civil, criminal, and bankruptcy matters run through PACER and the federal clerk. They do not run through Alabama's state trial system.
Juvenile records are also absent from the types Just One Look advertises. That is no mere product gap. Alabama law restricts juvenile legal and social files. Identify the record class first, then ask only for information the custodian may lawfully release.
Older Dale County Case Searches
An older Dale County case often takes more than an online number search. The 33rd Judicial Circuit was formed in 1959. Earlier captions can therefore carry a different circuit designation. Courthouse fires in 1869 and 1884 may affect whether a record survived locally or moved into another custody series. Dale County sets out no online archive range or fixed research fee.
Give the Circuit Clerk the party names, approximate year, case type, and any old number or caption. Ask for an archive quote before sending payment. If the clerk cannot confirm custody, contact the Alabama Department of Archives and History. A remote no-result stays unresolved until those official routes are checked.
Read Dale County Case Results
Reading a Dale County result works best in order. Confirm the basics first: county, court, division, case number, and style. Then work through the Case Action Summary from the oldest entry to the newest. Match Court Setting Dates against later continuances or amended notices before trusting any single date. The last step is the disposition. Add the image of the controlling order or judgment when it is public.
Some fields need context. A civil filing only shows the complaint was filed. It does not show that anyone was served. A criminal docket entry is an allegation, not an outcome. A motion entry is a request, not a ruling. A docket call can be a status check rather than trial day. And a balance owed does not, by itself, tell you how the case ended.
Need a certified judgment or the full filed papers? The Dale County court record request route covers clerk copies and certification. For a live setting, confirm the newest notice with the court itself. The Case Action Summary can preserve an old date after a reset.
